Christmas Drive for at Risk Children 2015

Christmas donations for children 2015

Christmas Drive for At Risk Children 2015As non-profit child welfare organization, One Church One Child of Florida is committed to helping increase permanency for children and strengthening families in local communities across the state of Florida. One of the support projects that One Church One Child coordinates annually is it Christmas Drive which helps provide gifts for children and youth in foster care and local at risk families with children. Each year, the Christmas Drive is made possible through the generosity of churches, business, organizations and other community members who work with One Church One Child in providing financial assistance to pay for items for the children or in-kind assistance.

Join One Church One Child in making Christmas a wonderful experience for at risk children in local communities and in foster care. Since 1988, One Church One Child of Florida has worked to diligently recruit families for children in foster care who have no family to adopt them, foster parent to provide temporary care for children, mentors who help to guide and support children, and has led efforts to provide support to at risk children and local family strengthening.

Those youth who are of age are generally asked to share their wish list for Christmas, to help with identifying something that the child really wants. Although most are asking for toys, bikes, electronic gadgets, clothing and gift cards, it is not uncommon for children to include on their list basic fundamental items such as socks and under garments. This is perhaps reflective of sometimes life experiences of simply not having very much. One Church One Child is working to help with efforts to change the experiences of at risk children to that of excitement and fun memories.

Remember that children, ranging from young to 17 ½ years old, are waiting in foster care in each of the six (6) Department of Children and Families Regions, from Pensacola to Key West. Families are unfortunately encountering challenges that sometimes result in the children not being able to remain in their homes with their families. They must then be placed into foster care for their safety and well-being. While we recognize that children are safely placed with caring foster families who work diligently to provide temporary parenting them, it is important to recognize that it takes a village to raise a child. By the same token, there are other local families who maintain children in the home, but could use some help, especially at times like Christmas. What a difference some support can mean for all of these children.

For example, in the Tallahassee area, One Church One Child works with the community based care organization to identify the children needing assistance for Christmas and with five local schools in at risk communities to identify families who can benefit from having some assistance for Christmas. Through generous gifting, children are provided age appropriate bikes, toys, clothing, gift cards, and/or computers.

Further, it is that time of year when many people are thinking about making their final lists of potential tax deductible donations. As a 501(c)3 organization, all contributions to One Church One Child of Florida are tax deductible. What a great opportunity to receive a tax deduction and at the same time, be a blessing to children by financially supporting the Christmas Drive for Children.
